DisplayPort pinout — 20-pin plug and receptacle

The standard full-size DisplayPort connector has 20 contacts. This reference maps the plug and receptacle views to four Main Link pairs, the AUX channel, HPD, configuration pins and DP_PWR.

Scope: This pinout covers the full-size DisplayPort connector as seen from the mating face. Mini DisplayPort and USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode use different connectors and numbering.

Signal group roles

  • Main Link : Pins 1–12 contain four differential Main Link pairs and their grounds. The lane count and data rate used depend on link negotiation between source and display.
  • AUX : AUX+ and AUX− (15 and 17) form the bidirectional channel for configuration, identification and link management; pin 16 is its ground reference.
  • HPD / CONFIG : HPD (18) signals display presence. CONFIG1 and CONFIG2 (13 and 14) support configuration or adapter detection depending on the hardware.
  • DP_PWR : DP_PWR (20) provides limited auxiliary power, returning on pin 19. It is not the display's main power supply.

Checks before wiring

  • Compare the mating-face view with the drawing for the actual plug or receptacle.
  • Keep each differential pair and its return path in accordance with the component and connector guidance.
  • Confirm CONFIG1/CONFIG2 behavior and DP_PWR limits in the specifications for both devices.
