What the calculator does

The nominal frequency sits at the centre of a symmetric window. In PPM → Hz mode, the calculator turns relative tolerance into an absolute offset. In Hz → PPM mode, it measures the offset between the entered boundary and the nominal frequency.

Why the period changes

Period is T = 1/f, so the minimum frequency produces the maximum period. The calculator uses the two exact reciprocals, which remains accurate even for a wide tolerance.

Relationships used

Δf=f⋅ppm⋅10−6\Delta f=f\cdot \mathrm{ppm}\cdot 10^{-6}
fmin,max=f∓Δff_{min,max}=f\mp\Delta f
ΔT=1fmin−1fmax\Delta T=\frac{1}{f_{min}}-\frac{1}{f_{max}}
